Due to India’s size, it consists of 28 states all of which have elected legislatures and governments patterned on the Westminster model. Alongside this, there are different languages spoken across the country. Hindi and English are the official languages, but a further 22 are recognised by the Indian government.

Culture is equally changeable across the country, Hinduism is the most popular religion, but Christianity and Islam are well represented. In some areas, the caste system is an important part of society. This is where people are born into social categories, some of which are jobs like labourers or government officials.
