The Great Wall of China was originally built during the period of the warring states. The wall went through continuous extensions and repairs over time. Noticeably, the structure did not become known as the Great Wall until the Qin dynasty. Prior to this, it was many individual sections of wall. Emperor Qin Shi Huang joined the walls together to prevent invasions from the Huns in the North.

The wall is now a significant part of Chinese culture and mythology. The most well known of these is the collapse of a section of the wall due to Meng Jiangnu. A woman who cried over the loss of her husband while building the wall.
