Timeline

2200 to 1700BC - The Xia Dynasty rules China, the first non-mythical dynasty.

1600 to 1046BC - The Shang Dynasty rules China.

1122 to 256BC - The Zhou Dynasty rules China.

221BC - Qin Shi Huangdi unified China but this only lasted until 206BC. He is most famous for his elaborate tomb and terracotta warriors.

207BCto 220AD - The Han Dynasty ruled China. The country expanded West as far as India, opening trade routes that woule become the Silk Road.

589AD - The Wei built enough power to unify China and found the Sui dynasty.

618AD - The Tang dynasty was founded, art and culture flourished.

907AD to 959AD - A period of turmoil and upheval occurs known as the Five Dynasties and Ten States.

959AD to 1279AD - Song Dynasty rules China, known for its bureaucracy and learning.

1271AD - Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis, establishes the Yuan Dynasty in China.

1368AD to 1644AD - The Ming Dynasty rules China, art and exploration prosper.

1644AD to 1911AD - The final Chinese dynasty, the Qing rules China.

1911AD - The final Qing emperor was overthrown leading to a civil war.

1949AD - Mao Zedong and the Communist Peoples Liberation Army win the civil war. China officially becomes the Peoples Republic of China.
