Acre is far to the West in Brazil bordering Peru and Bolivia. Originally, Acre was settled in part due to its rich natural minerals that can be mined. The state used to be part of Bolivia but with a large Brazilian population. In 1899, the state declared itself part of Brazil which Bolivia tried to resist. Finally in 1903, Acre officially became part of Brazil. The climate is hot and humid typical of jungle environments with an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. The state is environmentally diverse with agriculture the main source of income.
