A map of China showing where Tibet is

The province of Tibet is highly ethnically diverse and used to be an independent state. There is a distinct culture unique to the province. Arguments can be made to the exact political situation but the Chinese government has poured resources into the province for development. The high mountains and cold climate mean many industries are hard to pursue, the largest of which is subsistence agriculture. Many tourists come to see the ancient buildings. The provincial capital is Lhasa and the province is only 28 percent urban.
