Learning About Canadian Money

I've provided a number of worksheets (scroll to the end of this page) for children to practice recognizing and counting Canadian money.
Canadian coins are made by the "Royal Canadian Mint". As a Crown Corporation, the Royal Canadian Mint is 100% owned by the Government of Canada.
In March 2012 the Mint decided to cease the production of Canadian pennies as it costs more than a penny to create one. The final penny was minted at the Winnipeg, Manitoba plant on the morning of May 4, 2012. It's unclear how long existing pennies will continue to be in circulation.
Canadian coins have a standard image on them but there are often special coins released celebrating certain occasions (for example, the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver saw a number of different quarter designs released). Canadian coins and American coins are fairly similar in size, what they're called and how they look from a distance -- American coins are accepted, at par, in Canada so you will sometimes find some American coins mixed in with your Canadian change.

These worksheets make great handouts while learning about Canadian money. They are not activities, they're just information (scroll down a bit further for the activity worksheets).
